About the Blogger

Hi, my name is Lydia Rogers and I am an art history major at Sacramento State.  I grew up in the central valley and moved to Sacramento after transferring from a community college, where I had a few very good teachers who helped me discover my love of art history.  Art has always been something that I have loved, even as a child sitting in the public library perusing books on art and artists.   As a child and then a young adult I was drawn to the modernists and their urge to break away from the status quo.  In Renaissance art and the artworks of the distant past, I find my interest in mythology and religion and the language of aesthetics.  Contemporary, I feel, is something I have grown into.  There is a certain intellectualism, a certain need to question, doubt, and ultimately discuss in contemporary art that I respond to.

I am very invested in feminism, and I am very interested in the role of the female artist, contemporarily and in the past.  I am also very interested in global contemporary art and breaching out of what is known to me, but also recognizing global, universal truths.

I visit museums as often as I can and I want to make an effort to visit more galleries and art spaces.  I am an aspiring art historian but I no longer just want to be stuck in the past.  I want to be involved in what is going on around me and I am interested in the continuum between past and present, how they affect and reflect one another.

This blog, more or less, is to talk about, review, and reflect on the art I see and what I encounter of the art world.
